The Southern Village Club is excited to add Josh Collins, Tennis Director, to our team! Josh joins us from the lively Brier Creek Country Club racquets program, where he has served as a long time tennis professional and Director of Junior Tennis. Josh has been a staple of the Triangle tennis community since the early 2000s. An avid player, Josh played collegiate tennis and served as the team captain for the North Carolina Central University tennis team from 2004-2006. Since his collegiate career, he has continued to compete at a high level, taking several USTA teams to compete at sectional championships.
Josh has served as the head coach of the Voyager Academy’s girls and boys teams, and in 2017, he coached BCCC’s 14u JTT team to a 2nd place finish in the USTA JTT National Championships. During the pandemic, Josh launched the Social Tennis League, a Triangle-wide social tennis league, to provide adult players with opportunities to play and compete when local USTA league play had been halted.
The Southern Village Club is thrilled to welcome Veva Willocks to our tennis staff!
Veva brings a lifelong passion for the sport, having started playing tennis at age nine and competing in tournaments since age eleven. A standout athlete throughout her youth, she earned multiple honors during her high school career, including Athlete of the Month, Coaches Award (twice), and Most Valuable Player.
Veva went on to play collegiate tennis at Methodist University, where she earned a spot on the USA South All-Conference Second Team and was recognized twice with the Sportsmanship Award. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management along with a certification in Professional Tennis Management, combining her playing experience with a strong foundation in coaching and leadership.
Originally from Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, Veva brings great energy to the court and a love for helping players grow in their game. Off the court, she’s a talented artist who enjoys drawing, cosplay, and attending Comic Cons. Her favorite vacation spot is Disney World, and she’s always up for a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream with M&Ms—or a plate of ribs!
Coach Wesley joined us in August 2019. He is currently a senior at Carrboro High School after previously attending Mary Scroggs Elementary School and Culbreth Middle School. Wesley has been playing tennis his entire life and started playing in USTA tournaments at the age of ten. He has won multiple NCHSAA state championships on the Carrboro High School Varsity team. He used to be a tennis camper at Southern Village Club and hopes to instill the same passion for tennis that he developed here with his own students. You may have also seen Wesley in his role as a Summer Camp Counselor with the SVC summer day camp.
