Registration & Evaluations

Registration

In order to participate in the season, you must register & sign up your swimmer(s) on Swimmingly. Please review the “Swim Team Requirements” below before registering your swimmer.

In order to participate on the Stingrays, swimmers must be a current member of the following clubs: Southern Village, Governors Club, Governors Park, The Preserve, or The Legacy.

Important Reminders:

2026 Registration opens on Monday, April 6th! The links will not be active before this date. Once registration opens, the Head Coach and/or Parent Reps will send email reminders with instructions & links. Registration closes Sunday, May 3rd!
Swimmers will not be permitted to start practicing until they have completed an evaluation.

Registration Fees

$205 per child, additional children of the same home $190 each.

$250 per child, Legacy/Preserve and Governor’s Club/Park Fee

Registration fee includes a team shirt, as well as 1 latex team cap.

Practice Information

Evaluations

Depending on your swimmer’s age as of June 1, 2026, they will be evaluated on May 4th, 5th, 6th, before being placed into the appropriate age-based practice group. If the swimmer is not able to complete the age-level requirements, they will be recommended to participate in either the Pre-Season Clinic or private swim lessons. Coaches will meet with parents the day of evaluations to discuss evaluations and recommend optimal placement.

Sign up for a 10-minute time slot for one of these dates on Sign-Up Genius (Linked on Registration Portal).

Swimmers of the same family are allowed to sign up for the same time slot, but please indicate the number of swimmers in your family with the “quantity” feature. (ex. Smiths, 2).

Please arrive on time for the time slot you signed up for. Coaches will not begin evaluating your swimmer before your designated time slot.

Please do not sign up for an evaluation slot until after registering your swimmer.

Pre-Season Clinic

A pre-season swim clinic will be offered for those swimmers who are not quite “swim team ready” and require minor stroke improvement before the regular season begins.

The clinic is invite-only, based on the swimmer’s evaluation.

There will be 7 sessions from May 11-15 with weather make up days reserved for May 18-19. At the completion of the clinic, swimmers who show improvement and have high attendance rates will be offered a spot on the SVGC swim team.

Clinic is provided at an additional fee. There are no refunds offered once the clinic has started.

Age based on June 1, 2025
Group	Monday–Friday, May 11-15. Weather related make-up days reserved for May 19-20.
6 and under	4:45 – 5:30 PM
7 and up	5:30 – 6:30 PM

Swim Team Requirements

* These are general guidelines, so please do not let these requirements prevent you from signing your swimmer up. A coach will determine optimal placement during your swimmer’s evaluation!

6 & Under:

Swim one lap (25 yards) freestyle unassisted and without stopping, using a flutter kick and rhythmic breathing, under 1 minute

7-8:

Swim one lap (25 yards) freestyle unassisted and without stopping, using a flutter kick and rhythmic breathing, under 45 seconds
Show a basic understanding of backstroke

9-10:

Swim one lap (25 yards) freestyle unassisted and without stopping, using a flutter kick and rhythmic breathing, under 35 seconds
Swim one lap (25 yards) backstroke in under 50 seconds
Show a basic understanding of breaststroke or butterfly

11-12:

Swim two laps (50 yards) freestyle unassisted and without stopping under 1 minute
Swim two laps (50 yards) backstroke under 1:30
Show a basic understanding of breaststroke and butterfly

13 and Up:

Swim two laps (50 yards) freestyle under 50 seconds
Swim two laps (50 yards) backstroke under 1:20
Swim two laps (50 yards) breaststroke without stopping
Swim two laps (50 yards) butterfly without stopping

OR

Swim two laps (50 yards) freestyle under 50 seconds
Swim two laps (50 yards) backstroke under 1:20
Swim four laps (100 yards) Individual Medley (IM) without stopping

SVGC Swim Team

The SVGC swim team is part of the Chapel Hill Summer Swim League, and welcomes swimmers ages 5–18. Our goal is to help each swimmer improve their skills by emphasizing fun, team spirit, healthy competition, and good sportsmanship. The friendships formed among team members make being part of the team truly special.
